North Propylaeum of the Palace, Knossos
Sir Arthur Evans, the archaologist credited for discovering the Palace of Knossos, has been derided for "Disney-fying" the ruins by rebuilding certain portions of the palace (like the North Propylaeum) and painting them to match the original colors (with the original frescos being carefully preserved in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum). While we understand the criticism, we found that it made it easier to imagine the original splendor.
