Looking out over Þingvellir, which was not only the meeting place of parliament, but also of the Euro-Asiatic and North American continental plates. The plain in the middle of the picture is where the continental plates are slowly pulling apart. Hildur, our Golden Circle guide, explained that the buildings include a small church and the summer retreat of high government officials.
