Carvings on the porch of Te Papaiouru Marae (a sacred meetinghouse) in Ohinemutu, Rotorua. The shell-inlaid eyes definitely add to their fierceness. At least, it gives Jess the heebie-jeebies. You can be sure she won't be pilfering their taonga.
