One of St. Petersburg's Sphinxes

Across the Neva River from St. Isaac's Cathedral sit two Theban Sphinxes from the 15th century B.C. They were brought by boat and installed in St. Petersburg in the 19th century A.D., when Egyptian relics were popular all over Europe (and Russia was increasingly European).
