Church of San Jose de Cachi, Salta Province

churchofsanjosedecachisaltaprovince.jpg

One of the many colonial churches we visited on our way to Cafayate was the Church of San Jose in Cachi. Belying the plain exterior, the church has an elaborate main altar with saints, angels and plenty of gilding. Otherwise, the rustic look is enhanced by its pulpit and confessional, which were made from cactus wood due to the scarcity of trees in the region! (My interior pictures didn't really come out, but you can clink the link to see ones that did.)
